CLU-Oxford Program 15-Year Anniversary Celebration |
|
|
On October 18, we celebrated the 15-year anniversary of our program collaboration with faculty at the University of Oxford. Since its inception 171 CLU students have studied in Oxford, England, receiving tutorials from world renowned scholars. To commemorate this milestone achievement, we paid tribute to the founding faculty member who established the program, Dr. Michael Brint, Professor of Political Science, emeritus. We were honored to also have Dr. Daniel Butt, Associate Professor in Political Theory and Director of Graduate Studies in Politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations, and Fellow and Tutor in Political Theory at Balliol College, on campus for the week. Dr. Butt is one of the original dons with the Cal Lutheran-Oxford program. He provided us with an informative presentation titled, Rectifying Social Injustice: The Inadequacy of Selective State Apologies, offering insights regarding his research on theories of distributive and rectifactory justice. Finally, we recognized Dr. Peter Carlson, CLU Professor of Religion, for his hard work in helping us re-envision the program and resume implementation of the program following a pause in 2021 due to the pandemic. It was amazing to 35% of the program alumni join us, including three students from the very first program!
